Difference Between Mooney Viscometer And Rheometer

Rheometers are equipments used to determine the rheological properties of polymer melts, polymer solutions, suspensions, emulsions, coatings, inks, and foods. Divided into rotary rheometer, capillary rheometer, torque rheometer and interface rheometer.

Rheology measurement is a window for observing the internal structure of polymer materials. The molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of polymer materials can be characterized by the response of molecular chains at different scales in polymer materials, such as plastics, rubbers, and resins. It can be fast, simple, and effective. Conduct quality inspection and quality control of raw materials, intermediate products and final products. Rheological measurements bridge the gap between polymer molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, branching degree, and processability, so it provides a direct link to help users perform raw inspections, process design, and predict product performance.

The Mooney viscometer is used to measure the Mooney viscosity of raw rubber or rubber compound. It provides three kinds of measurement data. One is the measurement of Mooney viscosity, the other is the measurement of stress relaxation characteristics, and the third is determination of the scorch time.

High-precision sensors, control systems, rotating systems, temperature control systems, data transmission methods, display methods, rotors, and measurement and control methods are the key technical indicators of the Mooney viscometer.

So,what is the difference between rheometer and viscometer?

The viscometer can only test the viscosity of the fluid under certain conditions. For example, the low-grade 6-speed viscometer can only test the viscosity at 6 fixed speeds, and even better, there are more speeds to choose from.

The rheometer can give a continuous speed (or shear rate) scanning process to give a complete rheological curve. The advanced rotary rheometer also has a dynamic oscillation test mode. In addition to the viscosity, it can also give many rheological changes. Information, such as storage modulus, loss modulus, complex modulus, loss factor, zero shear viscosity, dynamic viscosity, complex viscosity, shear rate, shear stress, strain, yield stress, relaxation time, relaxation modulus, Normal stress difference, melt extension viscosity, etc., available fluid behavior information: non-Newtonian, thixotropy, rheology, expansibility, pseudoplasticity, etc.

Mooney viscometer reaction rubber processing performance and high and low molecular weight and wide distribution range. Mooney high viscosity rubber is not easy to mix evenly and extrusion processing. Its high molecular weight and wide distribution range. Mooney low viscosity rubber sticky roll, its low molecular weight, narrow distribution. If the Mooney viscosity is too low, the vulcanized article has low tensile strength. The Mooney Viscometer can also see the rubber vulcanization process performance over time.
